Kings Way Montessori School, Ltd., licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, offers a carefully prepared environment where children engage freely in learning experiences that lay the foundation for a lifetime love of learning. Our staff is committed and dedicated to the education and development of children. By uniting with parents, we form a strong team which works together for the betterment of each child. Philosophy
Kings Way Montessori School, Ltd. is committed to a teaching method developed by Maria Montessori which is a scientific approach to being committed to laws of nature. A Montessori education stresses that a child has a spontaneous desire to learn and that this desire is enhanced by freedom of movement and independent choice. The Montessori methodology functions to control the environment, not the child. By viewing the child as a being who is advancing toward perfection, and, the environment as everything around the child, i.e. other
children, physical objects and adult personalities, the environment is prepared experimentally to remove detrimental influences so that the child's perfect inner being can freely emerge. The child's transformation to 'normalization' is the mental state witnessed when the child approaches studies with enthusiasm, works with little direction, treats others in a respectful way, and can work quietly alone or with others. "Normalization" is the state strived for in all aspects of the Montessori Program at Kings Way Montessori School, Ltd.
The more the environment corresponds to the needs of the child, the more limited becomes the activity of the teacher.

Our Goals
The goals of the staff of Kings Way Montessori School, Ltd. are to treat children with respect, to give children opportunities to do the tasks that interest them, to prepare materials and activities designed for specific learning goals, to smile and make positive eye contact with a child before presentation or instruction of any kind, to show children the steps involved in doing a task or working with a particular material, to design activities and materials where children can correct themselves rather than have an adult
correct them, to observe children to learn their needs and determine appropriate sensitive times to present new lessons, to modify methods and materials based on children's individual needs, to recognize that not all children learn at the same pace, to maintain a safe, secure environment, and to establish and maintain open communication with parents at all times in order to utilize parental input in the design and implementation of the educational plan for each child.
